the plot
The year is 2290. The second war for the Hoover Dam resulted in New Vegas holding its own quite well, the courier's link with the ever evasive Yes Man and the takedown of Mr. House leading to the formation of a Securitron army, serving the interests of New Vegas and the Courier exclusively. The NCR and the Legion were drove off the Dam, securing New Vegas as an independent power in the wastes.
Now, ten years after the battle for Hoover Dam, the face of the Mojave has changed quite a bit. The Brotherhood of Steel has come out of hiding, retaking Helios One for themselves, and beginning to expand their area of influence. The NCR was nearly exterminated, sent running with its tail between its legs, however it has gained support by pledging protection to towns and settlements in exchange for government control. The Legion faced the death of Ceasar shortly after the war for the Dam, crippling them, but not sending them into oblivion. Rather, they have spent their time fortifying, sharpening their weapons to a point seeking revenge. There are rumors about Enclave activity in the area, since some claimed to have witnessed troops in Enlcave armor during the wat for Hoover Dam. The Boomers have just barely begun to creep away from Nellis, still remaining hermitlike and antisocial to the rest of the wastes.
The Strip existed in chaos after the war for the Dam. All structure fell apart, but after the Courier's encouraging and enforcement by the Securitron forces, things have returned to relative 'normalcy'. The charasmatic Courier became the face of New Vegas, and the idol of the people, who rejected all other factions save for their own- the residents of Freeside and the strip itself harbored a deep loathing for the NCR and the Legion alike, attempting to stay strong in their sovereignty.
However, this all changed in 2289. An assassination took place on the Strip, one that was a devastating blow to the people that inhabit it, and all those that knew the Courier. Shot in the head, the great symbol of freedom itself fell to his knees in something that sparked an outrage too high to fathom. The courier had been assasinated by a NCR trooper, with a very specific task; to spark something big enough to send the people of the Strip into a rage. Lead into a frenzy without their leader, the Strip is now chaotic, defending itself with the weapons the Courier granted to them and fighting amoungst eachother over menial things that are not all too important for the big picture.
The assassination of the Courier has lead to the NCR beginning to plot the takeover of the Strip. With the grip on hoover dam weakened, the Brotherhood of Steel now has a sparked interest in it- sacrificing what hold they have on Helios One. With rumors of Enclave espionage and the possibility of raids from the strengthening Legion, times are turbulent and terrifying. The violence on the Strip seems to be spreading across the board; safe places are getting harder and harder to find.
